Expand Space 2025 & World Robot Olympiad International Final

We attended the Expand Space 2025 held at Sands Expo & Convention Centre, Marina Bay Sands, Singapore from 26-28 November. Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) was represented by two teams in the International Space Challenge 2025. We are pleased to share that Raziq’s team (led by Jayden) received the Merit Award in the Advanced Category for their project, “Reinforcement Learning for Space Debris Avoidance and Capture.” The project investigates the application of reinforcement learning to enable autonomous satellite navigation in increasingly congested orbital environments, with capabilities for collision avoidance and the identification and capture of critical space debris, thereby reducing reliance on human intervention.

Alongside the Expand Space 2025, the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) International Final and a robotic products exhibition were held at the same venue. It was interesting to witness the projects and competitions at WRO.

At the event, we had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Mohan Rajesh Elara and visiting his Robotics and Automation Research (ROAR) Lab at Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD). It was fascinating to learn how their research has translated into numerous startups and commercially deployed robotic systems. Thank you, Dr. Mohan for arranging the visit, and Yu Ling for the warm hospitality.

We are thankful to the Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) for its generous financial support, which made our participation in these events possible.. Thank you UBD!
